Notes

This drawing is a preparatory study for the maid holding a silver dish, seen from left side, represented in The Banquet in the House of Simon the Pharisee, a painting commissioned by the Order of Saint John Lateran for the refectory of their monastery at Asti, near Turin. The work painted in 1737 is now at the Louvre Museum (P. Rosenberg, Subleyras, Paris, 1987, no. 33).

This study is related to two other drawings at the Louvre Museum: the first one was formerly in the Comte d’Orsay Collection (no. 32964) and the second one in the Saint-Morys Collection (no. 32919); the latter carries a similar inscription (P. Rosenberg, Subleyras, Paris, 1987, nos. 40-41).
